14 Bel Air Nonprofits to Support on Giving Tuesday
From the fire company to an addiction recovery house, Bel Air organizations welcome donations on #GivingTuesday.

On the heels of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday is back for its fifth year.
Established in 2012, Giving Tuesday has become a tradition that celebrates and supports philanthropy the Tuesday after Thanksgiving.
Thousands of charities participate; here are some that are local (click the links for ways to give):

- Bel Air Downtown Alliance invests in Bel Air's economy and neighborhoods.
- Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company relies on donations to support operational costs for the all-volunteer fire service.
- Community Foundation of Harford County coordinates funding for Harford County nonprofit organizations.
- Greater Bel Air Community Foundation raises money for capital projects like bleachers at Bel Air High School, the Shamrock Park amphitheater renovations and others.
- Habitat for Humanity Susquehanna builds homes for the needy in Harford and Cecil counties. Its board is matching donations of up to $3,000 for Giving Tuesday.
- Harford Chabad supports Jewish programs like Hebrew and Torah classes, holiday meals and addiction programs in Harford County.
- Harford County Bar Foundation offers legal advocacy to the needy.
- Historical Society of Harford County needs money to repair its headquarters in the old post office building, which has a leaking roof and water-stained walls.
- The Highlands School is asking for $25, $50 and $100 to help children with Dyslexia, ADHD and other language-based learning differences.
- Homecoming Project helps women in recovery from substance abuse and addiction with housing and support.
- Humane Society of Harford County supports more than 4,000 homeless animals at its shelter in Fallston.
- LASOS provides resources for non-English speaking residents.
- SARC (Sexual Assault/Spousal Abuse Resource Center) aids domestic violence and child abuse victims in Harford County.
- Upper Chesapeake Health Foundation provides outreach services to families of those being treated at its medical centers.

The concept was created by 92nd Street Y in New York City, where leaders coined #GivingTuesday as “a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration."
