15-Year-Old Boy Killed In Edgewood Shooting: Harford Sheriff

A homicide investigation is underway after a teen was shot to death in Edgewood, officials said.

EDGEWOOD, MD — A 15-year-old boy was shot and killed early Thursday morning in Harford County, according to officials. Despite a K-9 search of the area where investigators believe he was killed, the Harford County Sheriff's Office reported officers did not locate the suspect(s).

Khalil Lephonzo Johnson, 15, of Edgewood, was found inside a residence when deputies were called to a shooting at 12:21 a.m. on the Fourth of July. Upon discovering he had been shot in the upper body, deputies said they began administering life-saving measures until the Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company took over.

The boy was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he was pronounced deceased, officials reported.

Officials said their investigation revealed that Johnson was shot in the area of Brookside Drive and Eloise Lane.

Forensic investigators collected evidence at the scene, where the sheriff's office said a K-9 search was conducted but did not lead to the arrest of any suspects.

The shooting happened in an "area where we often have gang-related crimes," Col. William Davis of the Harford County Sheriff's Office told WBAL. Davis said that while it was not clear whether this was gang-related, "the possibility does exist."
