2 Counties Plus Baltimore Under Severe Thunderstorm Warning

BREAKING: A storm with 60 mph winds was detected in the area, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a warning.

Two counties and Baltimore City are under a severe thunderstorm warning due to a storm with strong winds. The warning is in effect until 9 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 22.

Before 8 p.m., radar detected a severe thunderstorm over the Pikesville-Mays Chapel area, according to the National Weather Service. The storm had 60 mph wind gusts and was moving east at 30 mph.

The weather service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for parts of Baltimore and Harford counties as well as Baltimore City.

These locations may be affected, according to the warning: Baltimore, Pikesville, Middle River, Cockeysville, Aberdeen, Aberdeen Proving Ground, Back River, Dundalk, Towson, Bel Air South, Essex, Randallstown, Parkville, Carney, Milford Mill, Perry Hall, Lochearn, Rosedale, Rossville and Mays Chapel.

During the severe thunderstorm warning period, people should go inside to an interior room on the lowest floor to stay safe from wind and lightning. Do not drive underneath wooded areas until the threat has passed, as trees and branches may fall. Roads may become blocked by downed trees, and localized power outages are possible, according to the warning.
