2 Hospitalized From BBQ Bash: Official

Three people received medical attention at the event in Bel Air Friday night, and two were hospitalized, according to Harford County EMS.

BEL AIR, MD — Emergency personnel were called to the BBQ Bash in Bel Air Friday night, officials say. Three people received medical attention, according to Jenn Chenworth, spokeswoman for the Harford County Volunteer Fire and EMS Association.

After a man described as elderly fell at 8:49 p.m., Chenworth said a Harford County ambulance took him to a regional trauma center for treatment.

He was not the only one who received emergency medical services at the event, held on Bond Street.

One person was evaluated at the scene for heat exposure, while another was taken to a local facility, Chenworth told Bel Air Patch.

Temperatures were in the 80s in Bel Air Friday night, according to the National Weather Service, which reported the heat indices ranged from the upper 80s to low 90s, with humidity up to 79 percent.

There was also an air quality alert in effect Friday, meaning that sensitive groups such as older adults, children and those with heart/lung conditions or asthma may want to avoid strenuous outdoor activity.

The BBQ Bash — which features live music and barbecue competitions — is expected to draw around 30,000 over the course of the two-day event.
