HARFORD COUNTY, MD — Early voting will run from Oct. 27 through Nov. 3 in Maryland. Early voting centers in the county will be open from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. each day. Patch asked each of the candidates answers to the same questions and here you will meet Blane H. Miller III, candidate for Harford County executive.

Why are you seeking this office?

After spending 8 years in the military and 8 years running my company. I felt like it was a natural progression to get into politics. I am tired of sitting on the side lines and decided to get in the game. We need better leaders, leader we can look up to. I feel the bar is set to low. I am tired of the same lack luster, career politician that are a part of the political machine that is fueled by lobbyist and special interests. That have no sense of service and are motivated by ego, fame and greed. We keep regurgitating the same do nothing politician. That prey on the ignorance and fears of voters. That will say anything to get elected. But not this time!!! I want to bring out of the box thinking, progressive ideas to office of County Executive. A leader that has words like compassion and compromise in their vocabulary. I am just that leader.

What are the major differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?

Honestly, not sure where to begin. Leadership style, experience, interpretation of the roles of government. He is a career politician/ lawyer, that still acts like he is still a legislator. In my opinion he uses divisive language, surrounds himself with yes men, and has and ego the size of Texas. His campaign hangs on his military medals and that his family has live here for over 200 years. Wasn't a fan of him as my Senator and he is one of the reasons I decided to run for office in the first place. In short there is a lot of differences between me and my opponent.

What other issues do you intend to address during your campaign?

Zoning laws, developing, taxes, school board and manpower. These are a just few of the issues that I will address.

What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?

I served my country for 8 years in the U.S. Navy, I have been in and around the government for the last 25 years. I have been the CEO of a successful business for the last 8 years. I am sought out by governments and private business to consult on multi-millions dollar projects. But if that is not enough, I would submit that my most important piece of evidence is, I CARE!!!!! It may sound silly but, I care. In reality this is about day- to-day operation and budgets. This is not brain surgery or rocket science. Have you met some of the people that are elected. Tim Burton's imagination couldn't make these character up. I super confident that I can do the job.

What is the best advice anyone ever gave you?

My old boss used to say" how do you eat a big cookie, one bite at a time". Words to live by.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about yourself and your positions?

In the coming weeks you have the chance to go to the polls and be a part of the democratic process. I employ you to do your research. Go to the polls with an open mind. Don't just vote party lines. This is bigger than party politics. Vote for the person. I am running because I CARE!!!. I am, like many of you tired of the same do nothing, lack luster politicians. Same product different wrapper, that has a " business as usual" mentality. We can do better. We will do better! I want to recap what makes me the right choice on November 8th. I am not taking any campaign contributions. I am paying for this myself. Not seeking endorsement. Your vote is all the endorsement I need. Not sucking up to lobbyist or special interests. Because that is the beginning of corruption and I don't want to owe anybody anything. All my decision will be made using my heart, my brain, what the people want and what is good for Harford County. In the end win or lose I will be able to look in the mirror and smile. God Bless America and all of you. Thank you.
