Do you have any previous political experience? If so, please state and explain how that experience will influence your time in office if elected.

I have not previously held elected office. My experience comes through professional leadership, community involvement, advocacy within the education system, and years spent working directly with educators, administrators, specialists, therapists, support staff, and families while navigating complex educational systems as the parent of neurodiverse children, including a son on the autism spectrum.

Those real-world experiences have given me valuable perspective on how policies and decisions directly affect students, families, educators, and classrooms. They have also taught me the importance of listening carefully, asking thoughtful questions, reviewing information thoroughly, and approaching issues with a problem-solving mindset rather than a political one.

As a business owner, financial professional, and commissioned Notary Public, I also understand the importance of accountability, transparency, responsible budgeting, and public trust when overseeing large public systems and taxpayer resources.

What do you believe is the single-most important issue facing voters in the district you’re looking to represent? How do you intend to address those issues?

I believe one of the most important issues facing our schools is staffing stability and ensuring classrooms are properly supported. Students learn best when classrooms are stable, educators are supported, and students receive consistent instruction and support.

As the parent of children in the public school system, including a son with significant special education needs, I have seen firsthand what classrooms look like when teachers are stretched too thin and class sizes become difficult to manage. Even the most dedicated educators struggle to meet every student’s needs when classrooms become too overcrowded and support resources are limited.

Addressing this issue requires responsible budgeting, educator retention efforts, transparency, and continued investment in classroom instruction and student support services.

How do you differ from other candidates running against you?

I believe I bring a different perspective to the Board of Education through my combination of financial and operational leadership experience, firsthand experience navigating complex special education systems as a parent, and an independent-minded approach to decision-making.

Over the past 20+ years, I have been registered as an Independent, Republican, and Democrat at different points because I believe issues should be evaluated thoughtfully rather than strictly through a partisan lens. My focus is on governance, transparency, collaboration, and long-term student outcomes rather than political division or ideological conflict. I believe good ideas can come from parents, educators, administrators, and community members alike, and I am committed to evaluating issues independently rather than through partisan or organizational pressure.

I also bring direct experience working with educators, specialists, administrators, and support staff while advocating for my own children within the public education system. Those experiences have given me firsthand insight into both the challenges families face and the importance of supporting educators and maintaining effective classroom environments.

As a business owner and financial professional, I understand the importance of responsible budgeting, accountability, and public trust when overseeing large public systems and taxpayer resources. I am comfortable reviewing budgets line by line, asking detailed questions, and evaluating how financial decisions directly impact classrooms, staffing, and student services. I also understand that effective leadership requires the willingness to make difficult decisions, address problems directly, and ensure accountability when systems are not meeting expectations.

How would your work experience benefit the goals/objectives you’ve outlined in your campaign and/or the office you’re seeking?

As a business owner and financial professional with nearly two decades of experience in finance, budgeting, operations, and organizational leadership, I understand the importance of fiscal responsibility, transparency, strategic planning, and accountability when overseeing large systems and public resources.

My experience has also required making difficult decisions, managing personnel and operational challenges, holding teams accountable to expectations, and ensuring organizations remain focused on measurable outcomes and long-term stability. My professional experience has taught me how to evaluate budgets carefully, ask detailed questions, identify operational challenges, and make decisions that balance long-term planning with real-world impact on people and organizations. Those experiences helped shape many of the priorities that led me to run for the Board of Education, including responsible stewardship of resources, transparency and accountability, supporting educators, and ensuring decisions remain focused on long-term student outcomes.

Through my consulting business, I have also worked with nonprofit organizations serving Baltimore City through outreach and financial support initiatives, as well as housing counseling organizations helping first-time homebuyers navigate complex financial systems. Those experiences deepened my understanding of the challenges many families face and reinforced the importance of thoughtful, community-focused leadership grounded in both compassion and accountability.

As a parent navigating the education system with neurodiverse children, I also understand how board decisions directly affect classrooms, staffing, student supports, and family trust within the community. Effective leadership requires balancing fiscal responsibility with the real needs of students, educators, and families.

What is your opinion of the work being done by the current office holder, and how will you improve on it?

Serving on a Board of Education is a difficult and demanding role, and I respect the time and effort required to serve the community. At the same time, I believe many families and educators have grown concerned about transparency, professionalism, and the level of division surrounding Board discussions in recent years. Many people are looking for leadership that combines accountability with consistency, professionalism, and solutions-focused governance.

If elected, I will ask difficult questions, carefully evaluate financial and academic outcomes, and advocate for decisions that directly strengthen classrooms, student support services, and long-term student achievement. Oversight and accountability are essential responsibilities of the Board, but effective leadership also requires professionalism, constructive working relationships, and the ability to move important work forward effectively. Strong schools also require trust and open communication between families, educators, administrators, and school leadership.

My professional background in finance and operations brings an important perspective to the Board, particularly when evaluating long-term planning, staffing impacts, fiscal accountability, operational effectiveness, and how decisions directly affect students, educators, and families.

My goal would be to provide steady, decisive leadership that is willing to address challenges directly while keeping the focus on student success, responsible governance, and public trust.

How do you feel about the school system in your area and what improvements would you like to see be made?

Harford County Public Schools has many dedicated educators, staff members, and strong programs that positively impact students every day. I believe our school system has a strong foundation, but there are important areas that need continued attention and investment.

One of the biggest concerns I hear from families and educators is the strain caused by large class sizes and staffing instability. As the parent of children in the public school system, including a son with significant special education needs, I have seen firsthand how difficult it can be for even the most dedicated teachers to meet every student’s needs when classrooms are stretched too thin.

I would also like to see continued improvements in mental health supports, special education resources, transparency, and long-term planning that keeps student outcomes at the center of decision-making. We should continue building on the strengths of our schools while addressing challenges thoughtfully, collaboratively, and proactively.

How do you feel about crime in your area and what steps can be taken to reduce it?

Like many parents, I think about safety differently now than I did before having children. I want my kids, and all children in our community, to grow up in safe environments where they feel supported, connected, and hopeful about their future.

Reducing crime starts long before someone enters the criminal justice system. Strong schools, family support, mental health resources, mentorship, community involvement, and early intervention all play important roles in helping young people stay engaged and on positive paths. Through years of church and community outreach work, I have seen firsthand how much stability, guidance, and support can impact individuals and families facing difficult circumstances.

I also believe schools are an important part of prevention. Students who feel connected, supported, and successful in school are more likely to thrive both academically and personally. Supporting educators, addressing mental health needs, and building strong community partnerships all contribute to healthier and safer communities overall.

What do you think about the economic climate and business sector in your community, and what initiatives could propel it forward?

As a business owner, I understand firsthand many of the challenges small businesses and working families are facing, including rising costs, workforce shortages, and economic uncertainty. I have also spent time speaking with local business leaders and members of the Chamber of Commerce to better understand the concerns they are hearing across the community regarding workforce development, growth, and long-term economic sustainability.

One thing that became very clear through those conversations is how closely strong public schools are tied to the long-term success of our local economy. Businesses want communities with strong schools, skilled graduates, stable families, and opportunities for workforce development. Students deserve strong foundational instruction in reading, writing, math, critical thinking, and practical life skills that prepare them for success after graduation.

Schools play an important role in helping prepare students for a variety of successful futures, including college, skilled trades, entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and career readiness. Continuing to strengthen partnerships between schools, local businesses, workforce programs, and community organizations can help students better understand career opportunities while also supporting the future needs of our local economy.

How do you feel about transportation options in the area and what, if anything, should be improved upon?

In a county with both suburban and rural communities, transportation can significantly affect daily life for families. For many families, especially in rural parts of the county, transportation challenges can impact school attendance, access to after-school activities, appointments, employment opportunities, and overall family stability.

Transportation access and infrastructure improvements should continue to be expanded and evaluated throughout the county to better meet the needs of growing communities and families in different areas of Harford County. Continued attention should also be given to transportation efficiency, safety, communication with families, and accessibility for students who rely heavily on school transportation services.

Strong transportation systems play an important role in supporting students, families, and the broader community.

What else would you like voters to know about you?

Leadership begins with listening, humility, and a willingness to carefully evaluate issues before making decisions. I’m a wife, a business owner, and most importantly, a mom to two incredible boys. Navigating the education system as a parent has given me firsthand insight into both the strengths of our schools and the challenges many families face.

Like many families, much of my life revolves around balancing work, family responsibilities, advocating for my children, and trying to help build a stronger future for our community.

My undergraduate degree in Sociology and Anthropology, years spent serving alongside my husband in local churches and community outreach, and international travel have all shaped how I view education, community, and leadership. I have always valued compassion, service, critical thinking, and treating people with dignity and respect.

Every student deserves to feel safe, supported, challenged, and given meaningful opportunities to succeed, and I would approach this role with thoughtful leadership, transparency, and a genuine commitment to students, educators, and families.
