300 Gallons Of Sewage Overflowed Off Tollgate Road: Harford County Government

Harford County authorities advise people to avoid one of the Winters Run tributaries near Bel Air.

BEL AIR, MD — Wastewater overflowed in Bel Air this week, Harford County government officials reported.

Due to the sewage spill, officials said people should avoid contact with North Branch, a tributary of Winters Run near Bel Air.

The spill happened when a sewer pipe became blocked with grease, wipes and rags.

Public works employees noticed spillage from a manhole in the 2500 block of South Tollgate Road at 11:30 a.m. on March 10, Harford County reported. They cleaned the sewer line, bringing the overflow under control within an hour.

In all, authorities reported 300 gallons of wastewater overflowed, a portion going into North Branch, where the county has posted signs alerting the public to avoid the area and the stream. The vicinity has been treated with lime. The signs will stay posted until March 20.
