$50K Second Chance Lotto Promo Win To Fund Retiree's Project

FALLSTON, MD — A 62-year-old Harford County resident plans to tackle a home improvement project with his $50,000 winnings from a second chance lottery promotion.

Retiree John Hammel of Fallston was chosen the $50,000 grand prize winner in one of the Maryland Lottery's second chance promotions. He told lottery officials he doubted the authenticity of the congratulatory email he received, so he looked online for confirmation.

When he saw his name listed on the site, he started to smile, he said.

“I never thought I would win this big,” Hammel said.
