60 MPH Winds Prompt Severe Thunderstorm Warning

Strong winds may knock down trees in Harford and Baltimore counties Wednesday night, according to the National Weather Service.

Baltimore and Harford counties are under a severe thunderstorm warning until 11 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 8. The National Weather Service issued the warning before 10:30 p.m. when a line of severe thunderstorms was detected from Owings Mills to Cockeysville, moving east at 35 mph.

The warning was extended in Harford County until 11:30 p.m. when a severe thunderstorm was detected by radar over Bel Air at 10:46 p.m., according to the weather service.

Wind gusts of 60 mph and penny-sized hail are possible with the thunderstorms.

Those under a severe thunderstorm warning should go inside and stay away from trees. Drivers should avoid wooded areas. Roads may become blocked by downed trees, and localized power outages are possible, according to the warning.

These areas are under the severe thunderstorm warning until 11:30 p.m.: Aberdeen, Havre de Grace, Aberdeen Proving Ground, Bel Air South, Bel Air North, Riverside, Perryman, Edgewood, Darlington, Churchville, Carsins, Scarboro, Bynum, Harford Furnace, Abingdon, Hickory and Belcamp.
