750K Gallons Of Raw Sewage Seeps Into Harford Co. Stream

BEL AIR, MD — A sewer overflow involving the release of 750,000 gallons of raw sewage has been cleaned up, officials said Thursday night. However, residents have been advised to avoid the affected body of water for at least a week.

Wednesday afternoon, officials were notified of a sanitary sewer overflow impacting Bynum Run in the area of Sunny View Road. The overflow was cleaned up Thursday around 2:30 a.m. The ground was limed in order to disinfect the area.

Residents have been advised to avoid physical contact with the water in the tributary flowing into Bynum Run, which is 800 feet upstream from East Ring Factory Road, as well as all locations downstream within Bynum Run for the next seven days.

"Any contact with natural bodies of water contains some element of risk. The risk changes depending on water flow, weather conditions and other environmental factors," according to the Harford County Health Department.
