81-Year-Old Woman Dies After Being Struck By Vehicle In Bel Air: Sheriff

BEL AIR, MD — An 81-year-old woman died after she was struck by a vehicle while crossing the street in front of her Bel Air home, according to the Harford County Sheriff's Office.

Joanne Philipovich, of Bel Air, was struck in the 100 block of Royal Oak Drive around 7:50 p.m. Friday, authorities said. Deputies and emergency responders provided treatment before she was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where she later died.

Investigators said Philipovich was crossing Royal Oak Drive in front of her home when she was struck. The area has no crosswalks or overhead lighting.

The driver, a man who also lives in the neighborhood, remained at the scene. Investigators said pedestrian error is preliminarily believed to have contributed to the crash.

Authorities said the driver was not cited for negligence and was released. His name was not released.

Deputies with the sheriff's office Crash Team are investigating the cause and circumstances of the crash.
