Amanda Hichkad CCA Celebration Walk Saturday In Bel Air Benefits Cancer LifeNet

The Amanda Hichkad CCA Celebration Walk Saturday in Bel Air will benefit UM Upper Chesapeake's Cancer LifeNet.

HARFORD COUNTY, MD — The 10th annual Amanda Hichkad CCA Celebration Walk will take place Saturday at 8 a.m. at John Carroll School.

Hichkad was a Bel Air resident, wife and mother of three who received treatment at the Patricia D. & M. Scot Kaufman Cancer Center at UM Upper Chesapeake Health in Bel Air. She also was a utilizer and advocate for UM Upper Chesapeake’s Cancer LifeNet and believed in the impact that Cancer LifeNet and its variety of free services can have on someone going through the battle of a cancer diagnosis.

She wanted to ensure that her legacy was to help fundraise for Cancer LifeNet so that its staff could continue having an impact on the lives of her friends and neighbors in the Harford and Cecil County communities who rely on the services of Cancer LifeNet.

All proceeds from the Amanda Hichkad CCA Celebration Walk go back to supporting Cancer LifeNet and its nearly 300 programs and services that have helped impact the lives of more than 15,000 community members. This year's goal is to raise $150,000.

Klein’s Family Markets, a nine store, family-owned ShopRite Supermarket company, happens to be the presenting sponsor of the Amanda Hichkad CCA Celebration Walk. Customers can donate to the walk while checking out at any store.

“We’re honored to continue our support of the Amanda Hichkad CCA Celebration Walk,” said Sarah Klein, Klein’s Family Markets director of front-end operations. “Amanda left an incredible legacy and each year we look forward to doing our part to support the walk and help those affected by cancer cope with the physical, financial, psychological and emotional aspects of having cancer.”

In addition to the 10th anniversary of the walk this year, it’s also the 10th anniversary of the founding of the Kaufman Cancer Center at the University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air and the 20th anniversary of the Chesapeake Cancer Alliance, which partnered with The Upper Chesapeake Health Foundation in 2014 to establish the walk fundraiser.
