Driver Sought After Family Of Geese Fatally Hit

JOPPA, MD — A family of geese were fatally hit Thursday and, according to witnesses, the involved driver didn't stop to check on the animals.

CharlesUnique Lomax told WBAL she at first saw one dead goose in the street near the intersection of U.S. Route 40 and Magnolia Road. Then realized there were two adult geese and eight babies, lying there dead.

"I was in disbelief. I couldn't believe the amount. You know, you see roadkill all the time. I drive all the time. We all see it, but the amount of them. I mean, there were piles everywhere of deceased geese," Lomax said.

The Harford County Sheriff's Office said the driver could face felony animal cruelty charges if it is determined the birds were hit intentionally.

"To run them over and just keep going, I mean, it just takes a cruel, heartless individual to do that," Lomax told WBAL. “They're somewhere else about to hit another (animal), or a person, or another car. You just don't know. They were careless. They didn't stay around. They just left them to die."
