GoFundMe Created For Teen Killed While Changing Flat Tire

EDGEWOOD, MD — A GoFundMe has been created in honor of the 17-year-old Edgewood teen who was fatally hit by a passing vehicle while changing a flat tire on a vehicle broken down on the outer loop of I-695.

According to the Maryland State Police, the 17-year-old whom the fundraiser identifies as Byren, was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency workers. He was one of three passengers in a Lexus IS that had the flat tire.

"Byren was a special kid—not your average teenager. He was smart, wise beyond his years and had a passion for rapping and cutting hair. Byren always knew he was going to open a barbershop and you couldn't tell him anything different. His dreams and determination made him a bright light in our family, and his loss is something we're struggling to come to terms with," the GoFundMe stated.

The driver of the Lexus, identified as Kyeahle Lamerah Armstead, 18, of Baltimore, was taken to a local hospital for treatment. No other injuries were reported at the scene by the other individuals in the vehicle, Patch reported previously.

The GoFundMe will help cover the expenses of Byren's funeral arrangements, church services and other unexpected costs.

"Our family is facing the heartbreak of his sudden passing, and we are also confronted with unexpected expenses for his funeral and memorial ... If you can help in any way, your efforts would take us a long way. We deeply appreciate your kindness and generosity during this difficult time," the GoFundMe stated.
