Resident Injured As Basement Fire Breaks Out In Bel Air Home

BEL AIR, MD — A fire broke out Thursday shortly after 5 p.m. at a one-story ranch home.

According to the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office, a fire broke out in the basement of the one-story home located in the 20 block of Brooks Road.

The fire was discovered by a resident of the home and the smoke alarms did trip, officials said. More than two dozen firefighters from the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company gained control of the fire in 10 minutes.

One resident was taken to Johns Hopkins Bayview Burn Center with smoke inhalation injuries not considered to be life-threatening.

Estimated damages and loss of property has been pegged at $50,000.

The state fire marshal's office will continue investigating the fire.
