ABERDEEN, MD — A traffic stop Saturday night for an expired registration led to an arrest and confiscation of a weapon and ammunition.
The incident happened shortly before 10 p.m. on Oct. 24. An Aberdeen police officer stopped the vehicle near West Bel Air Avenue and Baker Street after spotting an expired registration.
During that traffic stop, the driver, Tyree Jones, conducted himself in a manner that led the officer to ask him whether he was armed, the police department stated.
Jones told the officer that he had a handgun in his pocket. The officer retrieved a loaded Glock 19 handgun from Jones without incident. The officer also found two additional magazines, each containing 28 rounds of ammunition, during a search of the vehicle, according to the police department.
During the investigation, police learned from the Maryland State Police Gun Center that Jones is prohibited from possessing a firearm. He also didn't have a Maryland handgun carry permit, the police department disclosed.
He was arrested and is being held without bond at the Harford County Detention Center.
