ABERDEEN, MD — A threat was made Thursday on social media that targeted Aberdeen Middle School. However, the Aberdeen Police Department determined the threat to be unfounded.
"While not a credible threat, the safety of our students and staff remains our top priority. Out of an abundance of caution, there was an increased police presence at school this morning. We encourage everyone, if you see something, say something," the school district said in an email sent to parents.
School leaders also asked parents to speak with their children about the seriousness of and the consequences that follow making any type of threat, whether a joke or not.
Whoever is deemed responsible for the social media threat will face disciplinary action at the school, leaders said.
