Harford Composite Squadron of Civil Air Patrol

Harford Composite Squadron members, Cadets Sarah Hawman, 16, and Graham Mitchell, 16, were promoted at a ceremony on Monday evening.

Cadet Hawman recently joined CAP in June and has already completed all the required testing and activites to be promoted to Airman.

Cadet Mitchell who has been a member since September was promoted to Senior Airman.  Mitchell has been recognized from his Squadron for his hard work and dedication along with participating in all Squadron activities and fundraisers.

Both were required to pass testing on Aerospace, Leadership and Physical Training.

The Harford Composite Squadron meets at the Harford Airport in Churchville on Monday evenings from 7:00 - 9:00 PM. Civil Air Patrol, the official auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force, is a nonprofit organization with more than 61,000 members nationwide, CAP, in its Air Force auxiliary role, performs 90 percent of continental U.S. inland search and rescue missions as tasked by the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center and was credited by the AFRCC with saving 113 lives in fiscal year 2010.

Its volunteers also perform Homeland Security, disaster relief and drug interdiction missions at the request of federal, state and local agencies. The members play a leading role in Aerospace Education and serve as mentors to the more than 26,000 young people currently participating in CAP Cadet Program. CAP has been performing missions for America for nearly 70 years. It is the largest sponsor annually of the “Wreaths Across America”, an initiative to remember, honor and teach about the sacrifices of U.S. military veteran.
