Apartment Attic Fire Displaces One In Bel Air: Official

The apartment attic fire caused $100K in damage and displaced the resident, according to the Office of the State Fire Marshal.

HARFORD COUNTY, MD — The Office of the State Fire Marshal is investigating a Dec. 30 fire that broke out shortly after 7:30 p.m. at Calvert Walk Apartments, 2209 Byrnes Court, Unit J, in Bel Air.

According to the Office of the State Fire Marshal, officials believe the fire was accidental and caused by an electrical failure. A resident of an apartment arrived home and found he didn't have electricity. He then found smoke in his bedroom and a dark stain on the ceiling.

More than 30 firefighters with the Bel Air Volunteer Fire company arrived and found a fire within the attic of the apartment. Officials estimate losses at $100,000 with $75,000 in structure loss.
