Arctic Blast Set to Deliver -17 Wind Chills to Bel Air

A wind chill advisory is in effect from midnight Thursday until noon Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

Areas affected include Carroll, Baltimore and Harford counties plus Baltimore City.

Timeline to 15 Below Zero Wind Chills

• Wednesday night: Actual temps in single digits; wind chill 0–10 degrees. Winds will be 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 30 mph.
• Thursday: Actual temps from mid to upper teens during day. Wind chill -17 degrees. Winds from 15 to 29 mph.
• Friday: Actual temps in mid to upper teens. Wind chills as low as -17. Winds from 10 to 17 mph, gusts up to 24 mph.

During a wind chill advisory, cold air and strong winds will create low wind chills that could cause frost bite and hypothermia.

Safety Tips

• Wear a hat and gloves if going outside.
• Check on elderly neighbors, relatives, and friends to be sure they are warm and safe.
• If using an electric space heater, make sure it is well away from flammable objects and that it has a safety switch to turn off if it gets too hot or tips over.
• Bring pets indoors.
