Bel Air Elementary's Roberts Honored by Mayor

The fifth-grader received the student achievement award at Monday's town meeting.

fifth grader Christopher Roberts was honored at the with the Student Achievement Award for his demonstration of good character in school and in the community. 

Roberts is the treasurer for his student government; he also works in the school computer lab and volunteers his time to help plant a school garden.

“He is a helpful, positive and passionate young man,” Mayor David Carey said at Monday’s meeting. “He has received a lot of awards for things like demonstrating good character. … He takes pride in his work, which has earned him honor roll status.”

Roberts was also a participant in the PTA reflections program where he won first place and represented Harford County at the state level.

Roberts said he was getting the award tonight “for being a good citizen and a nice person.”

“I help out others and always try my best,” said Roberts, whose favorite subject in school is math.

Roberts had more than a dozen family members in attendance Monday night.

“This is a great honor for us,” said Roberts’s mom, Leigh Ann Moran. “We’re so proud of him; and he is such a great boy.”

“I am very proud of him as well for his accomplishments,” added Roberts’s dad, Jim Roberts. “Just the fact that he is nice to the other kids in school is what I am most proud of.”
