Home Invasions Provide Important Reminder for Bel Air Residents

Harford County Sheriff's Office provides tips to avoid becoming a victim.

Bel Air residents are encouraged to be vigilant and lock all their doors after a recent spate of home invasions.

There have been “several...around the county,” according to Harford County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Cristie Kahler.

Deputies said they responded to multiple burglaries that happened when residents were home and asleep. Burglars got in through unlocked doors and windows.

The sheriff’s office issued these tips to avoid becoming a victim:

  • Keep doors and windows locked, even if you are home.
  • Store valuables (keys, wallets, phones, purses) out of sight from windows and the front door.
  • Lock the house and close the garage while mowing the lawn; burglars know you will be busy and can’t hear them.
  • Don’t advertise your vacation on social media.
  • Call 911 and leave if there is an intruder; do not confront the person.
