Bel Air Man Drives Into Darlington House, Gets Arrested: Police

Police said a Bel Air man is facing charges as a result of a crash into a house Wednesday night off Conowingo Road/US 1 in Darlington.

DARLINGTON, MD — A Bel Air man is facing charges of driving under the influence and texting while driving after he drove into a house on Conowingo Road Wednesday night, according to Maryland State Police. The crash caused the house and its foundation to shift several feet, police said.

Douglas Greenwalter of Bel Air had been driving a red Subaru station wagon south on US 1, or Conowingo Road, when his car went off the right side of the road and hit a house, according to authorities.

At 9:09 p.m. on Wednesday, April 3, police said that troopers were called to the 4000 block of Conowingo Road to the crash south of Hughes Road.

Nobody inside the home was injured, and the driver was also not harmed.

Greenwalter was arrested and is facing charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and using a cellular phone/texting while driving, police reported Thursday morning.

Building inspectors from Harford County were called to evaluate the safety of the structure, officials said.
