Bel Air Man Flung Through Tour Bus Windshield

Maryland passenger was hospitalized from sudden stop on charter bus in New Jersey.

WEEHAWKEN, NJ -- A Bel Air man was reportedly hospitalized with head and shoulder injuries Tuesday after flying through a charter bus windshield.

Edward Meerholz, 68, of Bel Air, had been standing near the third row when the tour bus came to a red light, according to Metro.

Meerholz lost his balance and was ejected out the front window onto the street, authorities said Tuesday.

“I couldn’t believe it,” Erma Hagert of Baltimore told CBS New York. “I mean, the man just went through the window.”

According to police, the incident took place around 11 a.m. as a Baltimore-based private tour bus carrying 55 passengers was traveling toward the Lincoln Tunnel at JFK Boulevard East and Baldwin Avenue and came to a sudden stop.

Port Authority police said the passenger sustained injuries to his head and back.

He was taken to Jersey City Medical Center where he was in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries, ABC 7 reported.

The bus was reportedly on its way to New York City from Baltimore.
