Bel Air Man Sentenced in Delaware Taxi Driver Slaying

A Bel Air High School graduate reportedly addicted to heroin admitted to killing taxi driver, officials said.

GEORGETOWN, DE — A former Bel Air resident was sentenced to 40 years in jail this week for the murder of a Delaware taxi driver in 2014.

Joshua Dutton, 25, pleaded guilty to murdering the taxi driver who picked him up in Rehoboth Beach on Aug. 20, 2014, according to the Delaware Department of Justice. Officials said Dutton strangled the driver with a belt and robbed him before abandoning the cab in Millsboro, Delaware.

Dutton's lawyer told the court at his Oct. 25 sentencing that the Bel Air High School graduate committed the act in the midst of heroin addiction, which had also resulted in his being homeless, the Cape Gazette reported.
