Bel Air Parade Winners Honored at Town Hall

The Fourth of July parade is over but the accolades continue, with one winner retaining a trophy for the year.

The award-winners from the 2014 Bel Air Independence Day Parade were recognized recently in a brief ceremony on the steps of the Bel Air Town Hall.

A panel of independent judges rates parade participants on their consistency with the theme of the parade, as well as their enthusiasm, creativity and style, according to a statement from the Bel Air Independence Day Committee.

Central Christian Church received a check for $400 and will be receiving a plaque for having what judges deemed the best float in the parade, according to the statement.

“Their dynamic entry featured a three-tiered, red white and blue cake bearing the number 200, plus rockets and other appropriate artwork,” Michael Blum, chairman of the 2014 parade, said in the statement.

Blum said judges took into consideration the 2014 parade theme, which was “200 Star Spangled Years.”

The C. Milton Wright High School Marching Mustang Band was named the Best Harford County High School Band in the parade, for the fifth consecutive year, according to the statement.

Each year’s winner gets a plate on the trophy, which it holds onto for the year, like the Stanley Cup, according to the parade committee. The Mustang Band performed in the parade under the direction of Mary Lynn Twentey and Brandon Bickham.

The full list of parade winners is available here, on the Bel Air Independence Day Committee’s website.
