Bel Air Salon Helps Community Weather Storm
Those without power found respite at NVS Salon.
There was no need to have a bad hair day because of power outages in Bel Air this week.
After storms knocked out power for approximately 4,000 Harford County residents Tuesday, NVS Salon and Spa on Main Street tried to make things a little brighter for citizens whose homes may have gone dark.
The salon offered a complimentary shampoo and style, hot cup of coffee and outlets for people without power looking to recharge themselves and their mobile devices.

The offer came through Facebook, and when Patch asked salon owner Tammy Ehrbaker about the gesture, she said it had become a tradition.
“We do it during all times when the local community is out of power,” Ehrbaker said.

“It started several years ago when many residents were out of power and it was school picture day at one of the elementary schools,” she said.
“We had many calls from frantic moms who had picked out a perfect outfit and needed their kids’ hair done because pictures were happening either way,” Ehrbaker continued. “At that time, we shampooed the mothers as well just as a courtesy. Everyone was so appreciative of something so simple for us to offer, we just kept doing it.”
Generally, fewer than 15 people come in during the outages, so it is not overwhelming and helps residents during a time that can be trying.
“We live in such a great community,” Ehrbaker said. “It’s truly a pleasure to help local residents because they are always so grateful with what is a simple act of kindness.”
