Bel Air Signs Spiffed Up By Business Owner Giving Back

BEL AIR, MD — Across Harford County, one man is leaving communities a little brighter than he found them. Shaun Hampton Jr., the owner of Elite Power Washing LLC, has been doing what he likes to call "random acts of kindness."

Hampton, who lived in Cecil County and moved to Harford County in 2011 when he entered recovery from addiction, is giving back to the community that helped save his life.

"I went through a recovery house next to Mount Zion United Methodist Church called Harvest House in 2011, which is one of the churches we were able to wash," Hampton said.

In addition to Mount Zion, Elite Power Washing cleaned other churches and playgrounds around Harford County in 2018 free of charge.

"This year we started with signs," Hampton told Patch on Thursday, Feb. 21. "We have done about four this year so far and [are] headed out to do more now."

Since he got clean in October 2011, Hampton said he has stayed active in service work.

"...Harford County has changed my life," Hampton said. "Since then I have started recovery homes here in Harford County and been able to give back what’s been given to me.

Hampton, who previously worked in landscaping and carpentry, said he liked the instant gratification that pressure washing provided. He started Elite Power Washing LLC in 2017 and recently moved from Edgewood to Havre de Grace. This will be his third season of working in the business full time.

In addition to sharing the transformations that clients have paid for, Hampton posts the projects he has taken on free of charge. If people tag a location in the comments on the Elite Power Washing Facebook page, he has offered to clean up those places too.
