A Grocery Store Trip In Bel Air Left One Person $50K Richer

A $50,000 Powerball ticket was sold at the Campus Hills Food Lion, according to the Maryland Lottery.

BEL AIR, MD — A grocery store in Bel Air sold a $50,000 Powerball ticket for Monday's drawing, according to the Maryland Lottery.

The player purchased the ticket at the Food Lion on Churchville Road.

Monday's Powerball drawing resulted in 20,750 winners in Maryland, with prizes from $4 to $50,000, lottery officials said.

The owner of the $50,000 ticket in Harford County had not claimed the prize money as of Tuesday afternoon, according to Seth Elkin, spokesperson for the Maryland Lottery.

Food Lion at 2458 Churchville Road sold the ticket, according to officials.

Also in Maryland, someone purchased a $10 million ticket in the Powerball Double Play, which is a separate drawing, according to the Maryland Lottery.

Because nobody hit the Powerball jackpot, the prize pot grows to $570 million for the drawing Wednesday, Sept. 29. Officials estimate the cash option will leave the winner with $410 million.

Three Powerball jackpot wins have come from tickets purchased in Maryland.

In January, a group in Allegany County bought a ticket that landed them the $731.1 million jackpot.

In 2011, there were two Powerball jackpot wins in Maryland: An Abingdon couple won the $108.8 million Powerball jackpot in September 2011 after buying their ticket at Wine World on Constant Friendship Boulevard in Abingdon. A Pennsylvania couple won the $128.8 million jackpot in December 2011 after buying a ticket at Wesley's restaurant in Elkton while spending Christmas Eve in Cecil County.
