Bel Air Swimmer Chase Kalisz Medals at 2016 Olympics
The swimmer from Bel Air continued the Team USA tradition of medaling in the men's 400-meter individual medley event.

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL — A Bel Air man won a silver medal at the 2016 Olympic games Saturday. Chase Kalisz, 22, came in second in the men's 400-meter individual medley.
Kalisz swam the medley with a time of 4:06:75, with only Japanese swimmer Kosuke Hagino eclipsing him. Another Japanese athlete — Daiya Seto — earned the bronze.
Members of Team USA have typically won the medley, with Michael Phelps getting the gold in 2004 and 2008 and Ryan Lochte picking it up in 2012.

"I'm a little upset I didn't get to continue that tradition," Kalisz told USA Today. However, he said: "It's not about a time. It wasn't about a medal. It was about me giving 100 percent...and I feel like I did that."

Kalisz was a few seconds behind Hagino at one point during the event — which consists of butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle — then gained ground during the breaststroke, nearly catching the Japanese swimmer at the end of the freestyle split. Hagino finished with a time of 4:06:05.
