Emmorton Snowballs was founded in 1981 and has remained a family business since then. It has expanded since its beginnings as a tiny roadside stand to include ice cream and milkshakes in a larger building, which also has a picnic area.

Owner Sharon Castronova founded the business in 2001 and says she uses a Hawaiian ice maker to ensure the consistency is fine ice, rather than crushed or crunchy. Sharon's also serves snowballs at Cedar Lane Regional Park during special events.
