Betty Jane Polk, 76, of Abingdon, passed away on Aug. 14 at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air. Born in Joppa, she was the daughter of John Jack and Isabele (Porter) Bishop Sr. and was the wife of the late Ernest Polk Jr.
She was a longtime dedicated member of Trinity Lutheran Church who loved to bake for her family and adored her cat Hilda.
Mrs. Polk is survived by son John C. Polk and his wife, Barbara, of Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina; daughter, Sandy Whittington and her husband, Michael, of Abingdon; two great-granddaughters, Faith Eileen Bender and Ashley Breanna Bender; two great-grandsons, Michael Logan Bender and John Gabriel Small; sister Joan F. Lowe of Scottsville, Virginia; and two nieces, Robin and Terry Lowe.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by grandson Randall Ray Bender and brother John J. Bishop Jr.

Visitation is from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 16, at McComas Funeral Home, 1317 Cokesbury Road, Abingdon.
A second visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 17, at Trinity Lutheran Church, where a service will be held at 11 a.m. on on Friday, Aug. 17, at 1100 Philadelphia Road in Joppa.
