Bike Thefts a Problem in Bel Air: Police
Bel Air Police give citizens a way to increase the chances of getting a stolen bike back.

BEL AIR, MD — A spate of bicycle thefts has the Bel Air Police Department encouraging cyclists to take a look between their pedals.
That’s where the serial number for a bicycle is usually located, and police say that with this information, the likelihood of finding a stolen bike increases.
According to the Bel Air Police Department, there have been a number of bicycle thefts from people’s garages, porches and yards overnight in the past month.

Now, police have asked that bike owners take action and write down the make, model and serial number of their bicycle in the event that it is stolen. The serial number is generally under the bottom bracket, between the pedals. People can also make their own combinations of letters and numbers to put on the bike for further identification.

- Record make, model and serial number.
- Take a picture of it.
- Secure it to another item in your garage, shed.
- Engrave it with your phone number or license number.
