At 5:47 p.m., Christine Buontempo and four other family members noticed the dogs barking at the garage, so she went to check and found heavy smoke upon opening the door, officials said. She closed the door, which contained the fire.

As a result of closing the door, Christine Buontempo sustained minor burns to her arm and was treated at the scene by medics, though authorities said she refused transport.
