Burglar Shoots State Trooper, 2 Sheriff's Deputies In Cecil County: Police
The shooter was arrested several hours later, after he was reported asking for a ride outside a convenience store, police said.
PORT DEPOSIT, MD — A state trooper and two sheriff’s deputies were shot overnight while responding to a burglary in Cecil County, according to police.
Daniel Padraig Colin Donnelly, 23, of Elkton, is charged with three counts of attempted first- and second-degree murder, three counts of first- and second-degree assault, first-degree burglary and reckless endangerment, police said.
Authorities responded shortly before midnight to a 911 call about a burglary at a home on Twin Lakes Drive in Port Deposit, according to police, who entered the residence after determining the burglar was inside. The two Cecil County deputies and the state trooper were shot by Donnelly while in the backyard of the home, police said.

Donnelly fled to a nearby wood line, according to police, who noted that law enforcement did not return fire.
Authorities established a perimeter, notified residents of the situation, and recovered a shotgun from the scene, police said.

Law enforcement received a call shortly after 4 a.m. Sunday about a suspicious man asking customers for a ride at a convenience store in the 1300 block of Jacob Tombe Highway, less than a mile from the scene of the shooting, according to police.
Authorities responded and took Donnelly into custody, police said.
The injured deputies were brought to Christiana Hospital in Newark, Delaware, according to police, while the hurt trooper was taken to the University of Maryland Harford Memorial Hospital, where he was treated and released. All three victims are on administrative leave, police said.
