Cedar Lane Spectacular Christmas Light Show Benefits Good Cause

BEL AIR, MD — For the third year in a row, Michael English is hosting the "Christmas Spectacular Light Show" at his house on Cedar Lane. The display features all new songs for 2018.

Highlights are the 22-foot Christmas tree, a light-up piano, arches and a fan of light shooting out from a smaller Christmas tree display at the center of the home, he said.

"This year the display took a solid two months as I was adding many new features," said Michael, 18, who asked that we reference him by his first name.

"On weekends, you'll usually see me outside in my ELF outfit handing out candy canes," he told Bel Air Patch. "On some Saturdays, you might even get a glimpse of Santa."

If people want to give back, Michael has set up a donation box and website to benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund.

The research is personal for Michael, who was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes five years ago.

In fact, he said that funding for the research is part of what motivates him to make the light show.

"My inspiration comes from my desire to find a cure for this horrible disease and to bring smiles and joy to the many people, especially the children," he said.

People can put money in the lock-box in front of the house or visit the online fundraising page. Last year Michael raised $800, and this year his goal is to raise $1,500 in donations. As of Saturday, Dec. 8, the donation page shows that Michael has already raised $970.

On Saturday, Dec. 22, Santa will visit the Cedar Lane light show with cotton candy and treats. The hosts wanted to give a special thanks to Bry's Lawncare and Landscaping, which donated straw to help save the grass due to the recent rain.
