Closely Inspect Kids' Halloween Candy For Deadly Rainbow Fentanyl: Police
Families are encouraged to closely examine their kids' Halloween candy and look for what resembles deadly rainbow fentanyl, police say.
HARFORD COUNTY, MD — One trick-or-treating tip the Harford County Sheriff's Office has impressed upon families this season is to closely inspect Halloween candy, especially items that aren't sealed and store-bought.
According to the police department, reports of fentanyl pills resembling brightly colored candy have been popping up across the nation since the beginning of this year. Rainbow fentanyl, as it is called, is "no less deadly than normal fentanyl despite its non-threatening appearance."

“Rainbow fentanyl—fentanyl pills and powder that come in a variety of bright colors, shapes and sizes—is a deliberate effort by drug traffickers to drive addiction amongst kids and young adults,” said U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency Administrator Anne Milgram. “The men and women of the DEA are relentlessly working to stop the trafficking of rainbow fentanyl and defeat the Mexican drug cartels that are responsible for the vast majority of the fentanyl that is being trafficked in the United States.”
