'Code Orange' Air Quality Alert Issued Friday Across Maryland

BREAKING: Environmental officials say the air quality merits a 'code orange' alert on Friday, June 30.

BALTIMORE, MD — An air quality alert has been issued for several areas across Maryland.

A "code orange" air quality alert is in effect Friday, June 30, issued by the Maryland Department of the Environment and Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments.

When the air quality reaches "code orange," it means pollution concentrations may be unhealthy for sensitive groups — children, older adults and those with respiratory conditions.

The "code orange" air quality alert is in effect for the following:

  • Anne Arundel
  • Baltimore
  • Calvert
  • Carroll
  • Cecil
  • Charles
  • Harford
  • Howard
  • Montgomery
  • Prince George's
  • St. Mary's

To minimize the effects of the air pollution, people should avoid outdoor exercise and strenuous activity, environmental officials advise.
