Collectors Corner In Bel Air To Host Free Comic Book Day 2019

BEL AIR, MD — Free Comic Book Day is Saturday, and one store in Bel Air plans to participate in the event. Collectors Corner on Main Street has a slew of giveaways planned, including free tickets to "Avengers: Endgame."

Don't be surprised to see a line stretching down Main Street. People may even camp outside the store in downtown Bel Air.

Collectors Corner in Bel Air opens at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 4, which is Free Comic Book Day.

Starting at 6 a.m. on Saturday, the Bel Air store will begin giving out numbers to those waiting in line, which will correspond to a bag handed out shortly before the store opens.

The line will form to the left of the store and continue down North Main Street and wrap around the building by the Armory building and lot.

Nationwide, publishers print special issues to be given away at participating comic book stores, libraries and museums on the first Saturday in May. Retailers across the U.S. will offer readers a pre-selected list of complimentary comic books to help promote the industry.

Usually, the event, which has been held since 2002, coincides with the weekend opening of a superhero-centric movie as part of an effort to harness momentum from the fiercely popular films.

Fans will tell you May 4 is also Star Wars Day. So you'll be hearing a lot of "may the fourth be with you" jokes.

Some stores expect to see about 1,000 visitors.

Here's a rundown of what to expect in Bel Air:

• First 25 people in line get a free movie pass to see "Avengers: Endgame" in theaters Saturday night.
• First 25 people in line get a free Collectors Corner reusable bag filled with $25 worth of merchandise, including graphic novels, comics and more. First 26 to 50 people get the bag, with $15 worth of merchandise.
• First 50 people in line have a 1 in 50 chance of winning a $100 Collectors Corner shopping spree. A $100 gift card will be randomly inserted into one of the reusable bags.
• First 50 people in line will receive a $10 CC Free Comic Book Day gift certificate good as $10 cash towards any purchase of $100 or more on Free Comic Book Day, with discounts applied
• There will be 25 free comics total for each and every person attending the event. Choose five of the brand-new Free Comic Book Day 2019 titles while supplies last in front of the store and 20 bonus free back issue comics from back issue boxes behind the store.
