Controlled Burns Planned For Jan. 4-5 At U.S. Army Aberdeen Test Center
The U.S. Army Aberdeen Test Center will be carrying out a controlled burn Jan. 4-5, weather permitting, during daytime hours.
HARFORD COUNTY, MD — If the weather cooperates, the U.S. Army Aberdeen Test Center will carry out a controlled burn Thursday and Friday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The controlled burn will help manage the downrange areas on the installation. According to the APG directorate of operations, all efforts will be made to help minimize the smoke from impacting on-post and off-post residential areas.
"Prescribed burning is coordinated with the APG Fire Department and is the safest and most cost-effective way to maintain APG ranges due to unexploded ordnance concerns," according to a statement released by the APG. "All controlled burns are implemented in accordance with the Installation Wildland Fire Management Plan, which addresses potential wildland fire risks and sustain mission landscape for testing and training activities."
