County Executive Cassilly Appoints Jonathan Streett to Harford County Board of Education

Pending County Council confirmation, Streett will serve the remainder of Mark Korn's term after his resignation due to health reasons.

Harford County Executive Bob Cassilly today announced the appointment of Jonathan T. Streett to the Harford County Board of Education, filling the vacancy created by the resignation of Mark Korn, who stepped down due to health reasons.

Mr. Streett will serve the remainder of Mr. Korn’s term, which ends in 2028, pending confirmation by the Harford County Council.

“Mark Korn has served our community with dedication and integrity, and we thank him for his commitment to the students and families of Harford County,” County Executive Cassilly said. “We wish him strength and good health in the days ahead.”

County Executive Cassilly expressed confidence in his appointment of Mr. Streett, citing both his deep roots in the community and his extensive leadership experience.

“Jon Streett brings a lifetime of experience, leadership, and commitment to Harford County,” Cassilly said. “As an 11th-generation resident, a graduate of Bel Air High School, and a parent of three children who attended Harford County Public Schools, Jon understands firsthand the importance of strong public education. His professional background managing large-scale operations, negotiating complex agreements, and leading teams across the globe will bring valuable perspective to the Board of Education.”

Mr. Streett is a graduate of Bel Air High School, Class of 1981, and earned a Bachelor of Science in Nautical Science and Marine Transportation from Maine Maritime Academy. He holds a U.S. Coast Guard Master Mariner license with unlimited tonnage and has held senior leadership roles with Wallenius Wilhelmsen Ocean Operations for nearly three decades, overseeing major operational, labor, and logistics initiatives across North America and internationally.

In addition to his professional career, Mr. Streett has a long history of community involvement. He has served on the Board of the Liriodendron Foundation since 1996 and has been actively involved in youth mentorship through the Boy Scouts of America, including serving as a Scout leader in Fallston and helping guide multiple Eagle Scouts. His commitment to service also includes leadership roles in professional and civic organizations and support for workforce training and development initiatives.

Mr. Streett comes from a family deeply connected to education and service. His mother taught at Bel Air High, and his father was the longest-serving pharmacist in Maryland. He and his wife raised three children, all of whom attended Harford County Public Schools.

“I am honored by the opportunity to serve the students, families, and educators of Harford County,” Streett said. “Public education is the foundation of our community, and I look forward to working collaboratively to ensure our schools continue to provide high-quality opportunities for every student.”

Mr. Streett’s appointment is subject to confirmation by the Harford County Council.
