Harford County Executive Bob Cassilly has ordered the Harford County flag lowered from sunrise to sunset on Monday, Sept. 11 and will host a memorial ceremony beginning at 8:30 a.m. to commemorate the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. The county executive invites the public to join the ceremony at the county’s emergency services facility located at 2220 Ady Road in Forest Hill.

Maj. Gen. Robert Edmonson, Senior Commander of Aberdeen Proving Ground, local volunteer fire companies, veterans organizations, and other officials will be on hand for the event. Harford County government has also continued the tradition of flying a commemorative 9/11 flag throughout September.

At 8:46 a.m., the exact time that the first plane struck the World Trade Center in 2001, County Executive Cassilly invites citizens to observe a countywide moment of silence to remember the brave souls, the lives lost and families of 9/11.

“Bringing the community together is an important way to honor the innocent victims and their families. We must not allow time to dim our memories of their deeds,” County Executive Bob Cassilly said.

Ladder trucks from the Fallston and Whiteford Volunteer Fire Companies will form an arch to fly the American flag from their ladders extended approximately 50 feet above for the ceremony. A bagpiper and local high school students will provide musical selections during the ceremony.
