Darlington Church Hosts Drive-Thru Greek Food Festival

Sts. Mary Magdalene and Markella will host its third drive-thru food festival this weekend, this one celebrating Greek Independence Day.

DARLINGTON, MD —Back by popular demand, the Sts. Mary Magdalene and Markella Greek Orthodox Church in Darlington is hosting another Drive-Thru Greek Food Festival this weekend. The church hosted two successful drive-thru festivals last year, and the latest event will celebrate Greek Independence Day, which was Thursday.

"We're doing a third (festival) because we had a lot of people come to us saying that we had awesome Greek food, fresh ingredients and they wanted to come again to support the church," Father Elefterios Plevrakis, the presiding priest at the church said in a Facebook video.

The drive-thru festival will last from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at the church, which is located at 3714 Dublin Road.

Available food items are listed online. The church said that because of Great Lent, new items have been added to the menu that will be prepared according to fasting guidelines. Those planning to attend, should pre-order and indicate the day and time they plan to pick up their order.

The online menu features classic Greek foods like: pork and chicken souvlaki, gyro wraps, grilled octopus, oven baked pasticcio, spanakopita, assorted Greek pastries and baklava cheesecake.
