Joppa Teen Killed In Crash: Harford County Sheriff

Authorities said that two factors likely contributed to a fatal crash Friday morning in Harford County that left one dead, one hospitalized.

HARFORD COUNTY, MD — A Joppa man died in a crash in Street early Friday morning, according to the Harford County Sheriff's Office. Investigators said that alcohol and speed were believed to have contributed to the fatal collision, based on the preliminary evidence.

Jordan Fredrick Maughan, 19, of Joppa, was pronounced deceased on scene soon after deputies arrived at the crash site on Poole Road near Cedar Church Road at 1:35 a.m. on Friday, May 31, officials said.

He had been a passenger in the 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe that overturned in the northbound lane of Poole Road before coming to rest on the driver's side, according to the sheriff's office.

Damien Alec Myers, 28, of Havre de Grace, had been driving, officials said; he was transported to Johns Hopkins Bayview for treatment of his injuries.

Based on the preliminary investigation, officials reported that Myers had been driving south on Poole Road when the SUV went off the right side of the road, hit a tree and came to rest in the road on the driver's side.

Poole Road was closed between the Arena Road and Cedar Church Road until approximately 7:15 a.m.
