Deck Fire At Townhouse Off Tollgate Road Ruled Accidental

Crews from three fire companies in the area responded to this call Monday morning, the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company reported.

BEL AIR, MD — A deck fire in Bel Air drew firefighters from multiple companies Monday morning, officials said. The blaze, which broke out near South Tollgate Road, has been ruled accidental.

Firefighters were dispatched to the 200 block of Golden Rain Lane at 4:32 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 17.

Crews from Bel Air, Abingdon and Aberdeen Proving Ground responded to the scene, according to Rich Gardiner of the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company.

About 25 firefighters brought the blaze under control in 20 minutes, officials said.

Improperly discarded smoking materials caused the fire that started on the wooden deck outside the townhouse, according to the fire marshal, who ruled the blaze accidental.

A total of $20,000 in damage resulted from the blaze — $10,000 in structural damage and $10,000 worth of items were lost. Nobody was injured, officials reported.
