2 DWI Checkpoints In Harford County Planned This Week

The Harford County Sheriff's Office gave notice of two sobriety checkpoints.

HARFORD COUNTY, MD — As Memorial Day weekend begins, deputies in Harford County will be looking out for drunk drivers. The Harford County Sheriff's Office announced there will be not one but two sobriety checkpoints set up on Friday, May 26.

Officials did not disclose the location of either checkpoint.

The Harford County Sheriff’s Office and Maryland State Police, in conjunction with the Harford County Traffic Task Force, will set up two simultaneous checkpoints during the evening of May 26.

By law, the sheriff's office has to announce the initiative to curb impaired driving.

Following a Supreme Court case regarding the 4th and 14th Amendments to the Constitution, the court ruled that citizens' rights to security against unlawful search and seizure are not violated if the checkpoint is publicized in advance.

In Maryland, the legal blood alcohol concentration is .08 percent.
