DUI Checkpoint Planned In Harford County

Authorities announced an upcoming sobriety checkpoint in Harford County.

HARFORD COUNTY, MD — There will be a sobriety checkpoint in Harford County in the days before St. Patrick's Day, according to the Harford County Sheriff's Office. Authorities reported they will be looking out for those driving while intoxicated through the checkpoint on Friday, March 15.

The location of the checkpoint was not disclosed. Officials said that the Harford County Sheriff's Office would be conducting the checkpoint on Friday, March 15, sometime during the evening.

By law, the sheriff's office has to announce the sobriety checkpoint.

Following a Supreme Court case regarding the 4th and 14th Amendments to the Constitution, the court ruled that citizens' rights to security against unlawful search and seizure are not violated if the checkpoint is publicized in advance.

Drinkers are encouraged designate a sober driver or get the Safer Ride app, which is sponsored by the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration and pulls up taxi services in the area.
