DUI Checkpoint Planned In Harford County: Sheriff
The Harford County Sheriff's Office posted notice of an upcoming sobriety checkpoint.
HARFORD COUNTY, MD — Officers will be on the lookout for impaired drivers this weekend in Harford County. The Harford County Sheriff's Office and Maryland State Police will hold a driving while intoxicated checkpoint on Friday, May 24.
The location of the checkpoint was not disclosed.
Troopers from all 23 Maryland State Police barracks will be focusing on impaired, aggressive and distracted driving this holiday weekend. Police said that over Memorial Day weekend 2018, troopers made 121 DUI arrests and responded to 371 crashes, including two that were fatal.

Maryland State Police from the Bel Air barrack issued a statement indicating it would be part of Friday's sobriety checkpoint and said those arrested for DUI can expect jail time, fines, fees, DUI classes, license suspensions and other expenses that may top $10,000.
Troopers will also be conducting "Click It Or Ticket" seat belt patrols and enforcement of the Move Over Law.

For those driving on toll roads, such as tunnels and bridges, there will be extra Maryland Transportation Authority police on the lookout for those driving while impaired too.

By law, authorities have to announce the sobriety checkpoint.
Following a Supreme Court case regarding the 4th and 14th Amendments to the Constitution, the court ruled that citizens' rights to security against unlawful search and seizure are not violated if the checkpoint is publicized in advance.
Drinkers are encouraged designate a sober driver or get the Safer Ride app, which is sponsored by the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration and pulls up taxi services in the area.
