Vacant House Destroyed in Joppa Blaze: Fire Marshal
A K9 officer helped investigate the fire that broke out Monday morning off Philadelphia Road.
JOPPA, MD — Authorities are investigating the cause of a house fire early Monday morning in Joppa.
The fire completely destroyed a vacant home, according to the Office of the State Fire Marshal.
At approximately 12:20 a.m. on Monday, a passerby reported that a house in the 1700 block of Philadelphia Road was ablaze. Approximately 30 firefighters responded to call.

Firefighters from Kingsville, Joppa-Magnolia, Aberdeen Proving Ground and Abingdon battled the blaze at the single-family home, according to the Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company. Within half an hour, the fire had been brought under control.

MD 7 was closed between Clayton Road and Fashion Way for the firefighting operation. By 4:45 a.m., all roads had reopened in the area.

The Office of the State Fire Marshal was investigating the cause and origin, with assistance from K9 Officer Kachina.
The blaze caused $45,000 in structural damage, the fire marshal said; in addition, $5,000 worth of items inside the home were destroyed. The house was considered a complete loss. Nobody was injured in the fire.
