Edgewood Townhouse Fire Seriously Injures One: Fire Officials

The Office of the State Fire Marshal was investigating the cause.

Eight people escaped from a house fire in Edgewood Thursday morning that seriously injured one, officials said.

At 6:18 a.m., the tenants in a townhome in the 1900 block of Eloise Lane reported the residence was ablaze, according to a report from the Office of the State Fire Marshal.

There were eight people were inside at the time and all got out, the report said.

The last person to escape—a 64-year-old man—had second and third-degree burns and cuts on his feet and suffered from smoke inhalation, the fire marshal reported.

He was taken to the burn unit at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in serious but stable condition, the Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company reported.

Medics evaluated two others who refused transport for treatment, according to the fire marshal.

Approximately 63 firefighters responded to the battle the fire, which struck a middle-of-the-group townhouse, according to the fire marshal.

The blaze started in the front bedroom on the second floor, the fire marshal reported; the cause was still under investigation.

Within 30 minutes, firefighters had brought the blaze under control, the fire marshal reported.

Crews from Joppa, Kingsville, APG, Abingdon, Bel Air, Fallston and White Marsh fought the fire, according to the Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company. The Harford County Hazmat Team was brought in to assist with rehabilitation, the fire marshal reported.

Brookside Drive was closed for firefighting operations and reopened after 9 a.m., according to Joppa-Magnolia.

The Office of the State Fire Marshal said that the Harford County Department of Social Services and Harford County Disaster Assistance were assisting the people who had been in the house.
